Most retirees worry about one thing they never expected to face:
People are living longer. Prices keep rising. Pensions and savings don’t stretch as far as we’d hoped.
Retirement is supposed to be about freedom… yet for many, it quietly turns into stress.
“What if I run out of money?”
When “everything” disappears overnight
Mike had what many people would call a successful life.
- A high-earning sales job
- A comfortable lifestyle
- A nice home
Then it all collapsed.
A painful divorce left him not just broke, but £150,000 in debt.
Soon after, he lost his job too.
He tells the story of standing on a cliff edge, wondering if there was any way back. The only thing that stopped him taking a terrible decision was his dog, who was standing next to him. As Mike says:
“I thought, if I jump, he’ll jump after me… he’s stupid like that.”
That moment became his turning point.
Why he refused to go back to the “old path”
Mike realised he could try to rebuild his old career…

- New boss
- Same stress
…or he could choose something completely different.
He didn’t want to start from zero again in the same rat race.
He had a small amount of money left, and he made a big decision:
Instead of buying more “stuff”, he invested in learning a new skill.
He discovered online business through a video – just a simple training – and saw a new path:
- No need to be “techy” (he only knew email and spreadsheets)
- No need to create his own product at the start
- A way to build something that could grow over time
It didn’t happen overnight, but step by step, he rebuilt his life with an online business.
